Jessica Voorsanger is an American artist living in London. She makes work exploring popular culture with a particular fascination with celebrity and the relationship between fans and famous people.
This is explored through obsession, souvenirs, sound and image. She uses a range of different media from performance, painting & installation to beadwork and mail art.
She was the first recipient of the Whitechapel Art Gallery’s Children’s Gallery Commission in 2009 and has had one person exhibitions in London, New York, Edinburgh, Turin and Berlin.
In 2010, Peckham Platform (then Peckham Space) commissioned Voorsanger for Peckham Heroes, an artwork celebrating Peckham’s historical and famous residents. Peckham Space was transformed into a drop in day-time karaoke bar dedicated to ten personalities that have a connection with Peckham. These heroes
ranged from Rio Ferdinand to John Galliano and were chosen by local young people from the
Harris Academy who worked with Voorsanger on the project.
Voorsanger’s work was also part of the 2016 Peckham Platform Retrospective exhibition, a timeline of all 20 artists commissions realised by Peckham Platform between 2010 – 2016.
