Rachel Sale is a Peckham-based artist and designer who leads F.A.T. Studio CIC, a community-focused creative studio run from a shop on Old Kent Road in south London. Rachel works across many mediums, from printmaking to publishing, illustration to performance, but what sits at the heart of her practice is collaboration – all of Rachel’s projects aim to bring people together and nourish a sense of collective potential.
In 2024, Rachel was illustrator-in-residence at the V&A, where she worked with young people to explore illustration as a method for building self-compassion, community, and visions of the future.
Since then, she’s been back on Old Kent Road, working with her neighbours on projects that explore collective representation and new structures for living/working together. She’s particularly interested in supporting young creatives to grow their confidence in working locally. Right now, she’s producing a local newspaper called Neighbours and hatching plans to set up a communal fruit press on Old Kent Road.
