Myah Asha Jeffers

Myah Asha Jeffers is a London based, Barbados raised artist whose practice spans portraiture, documentary photography and writing and directing for stage and screen.

Her work focuses on witnessing and documenting the interior worlds and communal contexts of the Black native and diasporic quotidian.

Myah prioritises the building of meaningful relationships with the people she collaborates with; and ultimately transposes these connections into visually arresting, honest photographic or filmic work.

Using analogue photography, hand-printing, installation and filmmaking, Myah draws upon various tools to interrogate themes of queerness, the re-contextualisation of memory, grief, ritual-based gesture and kinship. As such, Myah is focused on artistically contributing towards the living archive of Black existence.

Myah is the 2024 recipient of The Joan Wakelin Bursary (The Guardian and The Royal Photographic Society), a winner of The Photography Foundation Awards (2024), was Artist-in-Residence at the Visual Studies Workshop (New York) in January 2025 and her major photographic commission and solo exhibition, ‘ACTS OF COMMUNION’, showed at The Roundhouse in Spring 2025.

2026

In October 2026 Peckham Platform invited Myah to be a panellist on an artist talk ‘Who I Am Now’ as part of our opening event at the Bussey Building.

In April 2026 Peckham Platform partnered with Maximus to commission Myah to produce Portraits of Peckham, a billboard for the clock tower using polaroid portraits of local people taken at our Circular Square event in 2025.

Earlier in the year we mounted an exhibition of In Living Memory, a show developed over several months as part of a Peckham Platform commission. As part of the exhibition, Myah spoke with Eddie Otchere about her approach to the commission and working with our local community. She also gave an artist tour of the exhibition and ran workshops in local schools. In Living Memory was the final event in our Memories for the Future programme.

2025

In 2025 Peckham Platform commissioned Myah for In living memory: The family photo album, an exploration of the diasporic family album against the backdrop of Peckham. Myah took part in a local workshop and artist panel to talk about her work.

Earlier that year we invited Myah to photograph local people at our Circular Square event as part of our two year Memories for the Future programme, which responded to the intangible heritage of the people who shaped Peckham’s iconic Rye Lane.
